Mike LeGrand
Senior Programmer
The strangest resume at Big Huge Games definitely belongs to Mike LeGrand. Previous employment highlights include: credit officer for a Japanese bank, chess instructor for a Brooklyn school, salmon grader on an Alaskan fishing boat, bartender on a Mozambican beach, and painter at a Chicago art gallery.
While his work history may not reflect it, Mike graduated from Brown University in 2000 with degrees in Computer Science and Visual Arts. He worked hard to merge those disparate obsessions by focusing on computer graphics. If there was a CG project at school, he was sure to be involved with it. Mike designed applets and artwork for the Brown Computer Graphics Group, built 3D models for the Cognitive Sciences Department, and started a class in 3D animation for the Art Department.
Sadly, Mike strayed from his CG obsessions and found himself, studying for the GMATs and applying to business schools. In the valley of darkness, on the brink of becoming a mindless corporate automaton, he repented his sins and opened his heart to the healing powers of video games. Salvation came in the form of a small multiplayer web game called "Billiard Boxing", which he wrote from home with the help of two talented friends. Selected as one of the top 10 independent games of 2003, "Billiard Boxing" was a huge success and can be played at Shizmoo. Amen.
Armed with some programming experience, an industry connection (Stuart Jeff), and his newly written game, Mike came banging on the doors at Big Huge. When they peeked out to see who it was, he stuck his foot in, squeezed through the frame, and steadfastly refused to leave. He's been lounging on the couch drinking free sodas ever since.
When not making games, Mike loves playing them. From old school classics like poker and chess to new classics like "Vice City" and "RoN", Mike just can't get enough. This love of games... or more specifically love of winning games, drives Mike's ongoing mission to create the perfect game... or more specifically the game that Mike always wins.
