"The single-player "Conquer the World" campaign is an absolute blast. It is most comparable to a game of Risk, only that when an attack is made, instead of rolling dice to see who wins, you fight a real-time battle."

Combining turn based and real-time strategy, Conquer the World is a single-player campaign that puts players at the head of one of the game's eighteen nations, with the task of leading it to greatness on the world stage. Plot, scheme, and overpower your foes as you battle for territories, continents, and the world.

Players start from humble beginnings by controlling just one of forty-nine territories on the world map. This territory contains a player's capital city, the centerpiece of any empire. Players can gain more territories by invading with their armies or by purchasing them if they have the wealth to spare. Army movements and diplomatic proposals are made at the world map level in a turn-based format.
Each territory on the world map gives the controlling player benefits, such as a bonus card, a supply center that grants the player an additional army, or a rare resource. Bonus cards can be used during invasions or in defense of a territory. They grant special benefits to your forces, such as additional units or resources. Bonus cards can also be used for things such as depriving a nation of its unique bonuses for a battle or sabotaging an enemy territory before you attack to soften it up.

When a player invades or is attacked in a territory, a real-time scenario puts the player in control of the outcome. He must lead his forces in that territory and use his bonus cards to manipulate the odds in his favor. If a player has an army in a nearby territory, he will receive reinforcements during the battle. A player that has allied with another nearby nation will notice that nation will also come to his aid.
A variety of scenario objectives are possible, depending on the situation. Players may have to defend their fledgling outpost in a new territory from the locals for a specific amount of time or meet the enemy in the open field, guns and cannons blazing, in order to gain the territory.

As players complete turns on the world map, nations will slowly advance through the major periods in history such as the Medieval Age, the Gunpowder Age, the Enlightenment Age, and more. Players will begin their attacks with the weaponry and technology of whatever age that the world is in, without having to research the same technologies and unit upgrades in every scenario.
