IGN: John Hawkins Explains No Hunting

Big Huge Games' Associate Designer John Hawkins takes IGN readers on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Age3: Asian Dynasties development..." I would spend lots of time researching Asian history, through online research and reading books offline. One thing that kept cropping up about Japan was the fact that they didn't eat meat for over a millennium before the Meiji Restoration, which happened at the end of the timeframe of Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking that it would be cool if we could somehow implement this into the game."

IGN Talks About AoE III: The Asian Dynasties

Big Huge Games' Design Lead Ike Ellis takes IGN readers on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Age3: Asian Dynasties development... "The idea was that you would be able to isolate your civilization from the rest of the world to change how your economy and military worked. After many attempts at making this fun, Sequester evolved into the new resource, Export, and the new building, the Consulate."

AoE III: The Asian Dynasties Gametap Preview

"One amusing anecdote has already arisen from this collaborative effort: Interestingly enough, The Asian Dynasties will not continue the single-player campaign stories from both AOE3 and first expansion The WarChiefs. No more trials and tribulations of Morgan Black and his descendants; instead, the single-player campaign will feature three separate stories (one per civilization, i.e. Indian, Chinese, and Japanese) with five scenarios apiece. Reynolds joked, "I think there were some signals crossed. We thought the Ensemble guys said, 'Don't continue the story,' and then when we showed them what we had planned, they asked, 'Hey, what happened to the story?'" It speaks of Ensemble's trust in BHG that it has allowed Reynolds' team to break away from AOE3's formula already."

AoE III: The Asian Dynasties Gamespot Preview

"In Age of Empires III, as well as its first expansion, The WarChiefs, you could control European and Native American civilizations in a battle for supremacy in the New World. With The Asian Dynasties, the second expansion, the focus will change to the other side of the world. However, this new expansion won't just offer up a new setting. The Asian Dynasties is being developed by Big Huge Games, the acclaimed creator of Rise of Nations, in cooperation with Ensemble Studios; thus, The Asian Dynasties is a merging of two strategy powerhouses, with Big Huge Games putting its own unique take on the series."

Broodax Knows Games!

Tycho at Penny Arcade has posted his first impressions of Catan, calling it a "deeply reverent execution of the original." We at Big Huge Games are honored by his kind words and high praise. Here's a great excerpt from the post: "I don't know how this happened, how a game of this type was greenlit all the way up the chain and then delivered on a mainstream entertainment device, but it's clearly the result of some divine act. I must remember to make the proper sacrifices."
