Step-by-Step Guide: Routers & NATs
Do I have a Router? Am I behind a NAT?
Some people have their computer directly connected to their Cable Modem/DSL Line. If this is the case, you can skip this section. You should be good to go! If you're still having problems, you will want to go to the next section, titled "Additional outgoing ports you may need to open."
If you're not sure whether or not you have a Router, ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I have more than one computer sharing the same internet connection?
- Does my IP address look like: 192.168.0.xxx? (click here to learn how to find out)
If you answered YES to either of these questions, then you are probably on a Router. There are some exceptions to this, and if you're still in doubt then you should ask one of your technical friends to help you figure this out.
If you are on a Router, then you are also most likely behind a NAT. This means that you will need to set up your router to:
- Forward port 6112 UDP traffic (incoming and outgoing) to the computer you are playing Rise of Legends on.
You will need to do this in order to let your network know that the computer you play Rise of Legends on is allowed to access incoming and outgoing network traffic to and from Gamespy.
One useful starting point can be found by going here.
You simply select your router from the list and it will give you step-by-step instructions on how to set up your router correctly. A big thanks to PortForward.com for hosting this useful information for users of Rise of Legends and routers!
What is my IP address? Do I want to use a Static IP or a Dynamic IP?
Portforward.com assumes that you know the IP address of the computer you intend to play Rise of Legends on. It also assumes that you will use a Static IP address (instead of a Dynamic IP address). If you need to figure out what your IP address is and whether you have a Static or Dynamic IP address, click here.
