A Week For The Arts
February 5th, 2007

The Baltimore City Paper is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a special event each month of the year. On February 10th, they'll be throwing the Masque Red Ball at Sonar, which will also benefit the Chase Brexton Health Services. Parties at Sonar are faaantastic!
The Creative Alliance also has a bunch of fun events the week, including:
MIDNIGHT RAMBLES
Black Shadows on A Silver Screen (York, 1975) w/ Animated Stories of Struggle and Change (Kids on The Hill, 2006)
Wednesday, February 7th
This doc on the black film industry from 1915 to 1950 maps the careers of Oscar Micheaux, Paul Robeson, Josephine Baker and Fred Washington, whose films were shown in segregated theaters in the South and in black city neighborhoods. Intro and discussion with Baltimorean Thomas Cripps, a nationally known African American film scholar who wrote the doc. Short animation by KOTH opens. 7:30pm. FREE! Donations welcome. Co-presented by Kids on The Hill.
Mardi Gras Hat Making

Starting this week and ongoing through March 10th, check out Geppi's Entertainment Museum for an exhibit on the evolution of African-American comic characters and the artists and writers who created them.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Baltimore Sculpture Project.
The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and the City of Baltimore present an outdoor sculpture exhibition throughout downtown that will run from June 2007 through April 2008. Stipends provided for construction and transport of work.
APPLICATION: CD-Rom of 10-20 images of recent work, 8.5x11" drawing of proposed piece, optional written description of proposed piece, resume, and signed application and image description form.
DEADLINE: March 2, 2007 (applications must be mailed or hand-delivered; no email submissions)
